What do we humans want?

At times, we believe everything is within our control; at others, everything feels uncontrollable. We long for stability but when we finally find it, why do we start craving change? Why do we desire something different just after achieving what we thought we wanted?

We say we want a stable life, yet when life becomes stable, it starts to feel dull. So what is it that we actually want? Why do our desires constantly shift? What does a human being truly need? What are we really searching for? Why are we here?

We yearn for a certain kind of partner, when we find them, we start wanting something else. It’s the same with family: we expect one thing, and once we get it, we start looking for more, or for something different. The same pattern repeats in every part of life, our jobs, our goals, our dreams.

Even those who land a dream job at places like Google might feel fulfilled at first, but soon they start chasing something more , more money, more meaning, more recognition. And on it goes.

How do we know what we truly want? How do we know what will make us stronger, or give us peace? What is our purpose and how do we begin to move toward it?
